The Bloodthirsty
They don't hunt the curse. They drink it.
The Bloodthirsty are a faction of violent, blood-driven hunters who roam the cursed bayou of Hunt: Showdown. Unlike the measured professionals sent by The Company, these individuals are defined by their appetite for slaughter and their near-religious devotion to the red that stains the swamp. They are not mere bandits or outlaws; they are a self-organized collective that has carved out a brutal niche within the bayou's ecosystem of the cursed and the cursed-adjacent.
In the broader tapestry of the bayou's factions, the Bloodthirsty occupy the role of the most overtly aggressive and least restrained group. Where other factions might seek to contain, worship, or exploit the curse from a distance, the Bloodthirsty plunge into it, feeding on the violence it generates. For any Hunter who steps into their territory, they represent a fast, relentless, and deeply personal threat.

Lore & Background
The bayou does not tolerate passivity. Those who linger too long among the fog and the rot begin to change, and the Bloodthirsty represent one particular mutation of that change: not the slow, hollow decay of the Wretched, nor the fanatical devotion of the Faithful, but a sharpening. A focusing. The curse's violence, rather than consuming them, is channeled into a singular, howling purpose. They become the bayou's teeth. Their camps are marked by the same red that stains the water after a kill, and their members speak of blood the way a sailor speaks of the tide—inevitable, necessary, and never to be wasted.
Their relationship to the other factions is one of mutual contempt. The Faithful see them as profane, a desecration of the sacred cycle. The Wretched regard them as still too human, too bound by hunger and pride. The Outcasts, those who fled the bayou's pull, remember the Bloodthirsty as the reason they could never find peace. And The Company, for all its cold bureaucracy, classifies them as a primary operational hazard—less a strategic enemy than a weather event that must be navigated or endured.
What makes the Bloodthirsty distinctive in the bayou's ecology is their refusal to be passive. They do not wait for the curse to find them. They seek out conflict, they provoke it, they escalate it. In a place where silence is survival, they are the sound that tells you something has already gone wrong.
In Their Own Story
The mist had a copper taste this morning. Rook could feel it on her tongue before she even opened her eyes in the hollow beneath the dead cypress. She'd made camp three nights ago, or maybe four—time in the bayou folded like wet paper. The Bloodthirsty had been circling since the second night. Not attacking. Not yet. Just the sound of boots in the mud, the wet click of a blade being drawn and sheathed, drawn and sheathed, like a metronome set to a killing rhythm.
Now the smell was closer. Iron and something sweet underneath, like overripe figs. She pressed her back against the rotting bark and held her breath. A shadow moved at the tree's base. Then another. They were talking, low and guttural, and the words didn't matter. What mattered was the way one of them laughed, a short bark, and the way the second one said something that sounded like a name. Her name.
Rook didn't move. In the bayou, you learned two things before you learned anything else: the dead don't bleed, and the living always do. She'd been dead for a while. The Bloodthirsty, she suspected, were about to find out.
Reader's Guide
CLASSIFICATION: Primary hostile faction. Operational domain: the bayou's mid-to-deep zones, particularly areas with recent kill sites or elevated curse activity. The Bloodthirsty are not a single organized army in the conventional sense. They are a loose collective bound by a shared orientation toward violence and a mutual contempt for restraint. Their stated purpose, insofar as any statement can be extracted from them, is the pursuit of the hunt in its purest and most brutal form. They do not distinguish between a cursed creature, a rival faction member, or a Company-sanctioned Hunter. The blood is the blood.
TRUE RELATIONSHIP TO THE CURSE: The Bloodthirsty do not worship the curse. They do not seek to contain it. They metabolize it. Where the Faithful build shrines and the Wretched dissolve into it, the Bloodthirsty use the curse's violence as fuel. They are, in functional terms, the bayou's apex predators, and the curse is their prey as much as their environment. This makes them unpredictable in ways that structured enemies are not. They will abandon a favorable position to chase a single kill. They will split their numbers to surround. They will take wounds that would end a lesser opponent and keep pressing forward.
GOALS AND METHODS: There is no grand strategy. There is no council or charter. Their method is escalation. They provoke, they overwhelm, they finish. In combat, they favor close engagement, fast movement, and a willingness to trade damage that most opponents cannot afford. They are most dangerous in pairs or small groups, where one can pin while the other flanks. Isolated members are still lethal but far less coordinated.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER FACTIONS: Hostile to all. The Faithful consider them abominations. The Wretched find them irritatingly intact. The Outcasts avoid their territory entirely. The Company logs them as a hazard and recommends engagement only when necessary. The Bloodthirsty, for their part, have no interest in diplomacy. They will attack any faction member on sight.
WHAT THEY WANT FROM THE HUNTER: Nothing. That is the critical point. They do not want your weapon, your information, or your soul. They want the act. The kill. The red. You are not a target in the strategic sense. You are a meal, and the bayou is full of meals. Do not mistake their aggression for a negotiation. It is not.
Did You Know?
- The Bloodthirsty are visually distinguished in-game by their red-and-brown color palette and blood-smeared aesthetic, setting them apart from the more spectral Wretched or the robed Faithful.
- They represent a distinct relationship to the curse compared to other factions: rather than being consumed by it or worshipping it, they actively feed on the violence it produces, making them the bayou's most 'active' ho
- In gameplay, Bloodthirsty encounters tend to be fast and aggressive, often closing distance quickly, which contrasts with the slower, more methodical approach of other enemy types in the bayou.
- The Bloodthirsty are one of several named factions that populate the bayou alongside The Wretched, The Faithful, and The Outcasts, each representing a different response to the curse's influence.
