Blackbeard

A hook in the dark, a blade in the throat—Blackbeard drags you into the fight he wants.

Blackbeard is a playable Hunter in Hunt: Showdown, a tactical first-person shooter set in a cursed Louisiana-inspired bayou. Drawing on the legend of the fearsome 18th-century pirate Edward Teach, the character embodies raw aggression and close-quarters brutality, serving as a mobile initiator who can drag enemies into his killing range or reposition himself across the map with a signature grappling hook.

In the world of Hunt, Blackbeard was drawn into the Company's network of supernatural bounty hunters after his days of corsair raiding ended in a way that left him bound to the same curse that haunts the bayou. He now hunts Terrors not for gold, but for the bounties the Company pays in exchange for silencing the monsters that plague the land.

Lore & Background

The Company does not recruit the gentle. Blackbeard came to their attention the way all dangerous men do: through a body count that could not be explained by any single battle. Once a corsair who ran the Caribbean trade routes under a black flag, he found that the gold he plundered was worthless in a world where the dead walked and the bayou itself bled. The Company's emissaries found him on a beach, half-starved, still clutching a cutlass, and offered him a simpler proposition: hunt the things that were killing everyone else, and they would pay in a currency that actually mattered.

He accepted, because a man with nothing to lose and a hook for a hand is easy to work with. The Company gave him a territory in the cursed delta, a roster of Terrors to track, and a quiet warning that the curse would not let him simply walk away. He has not walked away. He has not been able to.

In the bayou, Blackbeard is a walking contradiction: a man of the open sea trapped in a labyrinth of cypress and fog, a pirate who now answers to a corporate ledger. His crew is gone. His ship is rot. All that remains is the hook, the blade, and the relentless hunger to drag whatever stands in front of him into the mud and end it.

In Their Own Story

The fog rolled in at dusk, thick as wool, swallowing the cypress line whole. Blackbeard stood on the rotting deck of a half-sunk schooner, his hook catching the rusted railing with a shriek of metal. Somewhere below the waterline, something was breathing—not the slow tide-breath of the bayou, but the wet, deliberate rasp of a Terror that had learned to mimic a human cough.

He did not draw his blade. Not yet. He threw the hook first, feeling it arc through the murk, and when it bit into the thing's shoulder he yanked with every sinew in his back. The creature surfaced in a geyser of black water, eyes like cracked amber, and he was already swinging the cutlass in a wide, lazy arc that he had a thousand times on a hundred different decks.

The Company's ledger would note it as a Tuesday. Blackbeard noted it as one more reason the sea had stopped owing him anything.

Reader's Guide

Blackbeard — "The Corsair of the Cursed Delta"

His signature ability is the Hook: a throwable grappling projectile that, on impact, yanks the target toward him. Against an enemy, it collapses their distance and sets up a lethal melee follow-up. Against a wall, ledge, or structure, it pulls Blackbeard himself toward that point, enabling rapid repositioning across gaps or up onto elevated cover. Use it aggressively to close space on a fleeing Terror or a retreating Hunter, or defensively to escape a chokepoint by yanking yourself to a nearby surface.

Tactical archetype: Aggressive initiator. Blackbeard thrives in close quarters and punishes any target that tries to create distance. He is not a sniper, not a support, not a stealth operator. He is the man who walks into the room and makes the room his.

Lore tie to the Company: Blackbeard was contracted after his corsair days ended in the cursed delta. The Company bound him to a territory and a quota of Terrors, and the curse itself seems to keep him anchored to the bayou. He hunts not for glory but because the alternative—staying still in this place—means the things in the water find him faster.

Weapons and artifacts: Blackbeard's kit leans heavily into melee and short-range combat. A cutlass or similar blade is his bread and butter, paired with a hook for mobility. His playstyle rewards players who are comfortable in the thick of a fight, using the hook to create openings and the blade to close them. Artifacts that boost melee damage, movement speed, or hook range synergize well with his kit.

Keep your distance from the water. The bayou remembers every man who tried to leave it.
